BGE Art and Design

The S1 and S2 Art and Design Courses introduce the level 3 experiences and outcomes through a series of mainly practical activities and units designed to develop skills and encourage creative experimentation. Activities include papier mache sculptures and mask design.  Pupils are encouraged to evaluate the work of their classmates and that of professional artists and designers.  They are also encouraged to reflect upon their own work.

In S3, pupils carry out activities linked to the level 4 experiences and outcomes.

Senior Phase Art and Design

In the senior phase, Art and Design is offered at all levels from National 3 through to Advanced Higher.  The qualifications provide learners with a broad, practical experience of art and design practice and related critical activities.

Learners develop practical skills as they explore how to visually represent and communicate their thoughts and ideas through their work, and study the works of artists and designers.
